California Wild & Scenic Designation will protect 5.5 miles of the North Fork American River from Colfax-Iowa Hill Bridge to its confluence with Shirttail Creek. Designation would protect this unique stretch of river, located in the upper boundary of the Auburn State Recreation Area, as a free flowing undammed and irreplaceable natural resource. Park visitors enjoy fishing, hiking, swimming, whitewater boating, nature study, recreational gold panning and much more in scenic wild canyons with a mosaic of unique foothill plant and wildlife communities.
STATE WILD & SCENIC DESIGNATION WILL: ~ Protect scenic, recreational, fishery and wildlife resources and prevent any dam construction. ~ Protect existing local water rights. ~ Improve local economic possibilities.
STATE WILD & SCENIC DESIGNATION WON'T: ~ Change local land use authority or take private property. ~ Add cost to taxpayers. ~ Change recreational use or affect hunting, fishing or gold panning regulations. ~ Restrict options to fight wildfires.
Dreams can come true. Help Protect American River Canyons make this a reality! Add your name to the growing list of supporters on this petition and secure a CA Wild & Scenic River future for the North Fork!

California Wild & Scenic designation will forever protect 16 miles of the North Fork American River from the Colfax-Iowa Hill Bridge to Shirttail Creek from being lost under a dam's reservoir.
The undammed free-flowing North Fork American River from its headwaters in the Sierra Nevada Mountains to Upper Lake Clementine includes accessible deep scenic canyons with a mosaic of diverse, unique foothill plant and wildlife communities. Visitors enjoy fishing, hiking, swimming, whitewater boating, nature study, recreational gold panning and much more.
Some places are unique and irreplaceable - worthy of protection. California Wild & Scenic designation would help ensure continued funding for the Auburn State Recreation Area while protecting its unique and irreplaceable natural resources.

Some points you may want to include:
- Auburn Dam is not needed to protect Sacramento from American River flooding.
- The New Folsom Dam spillway and levee improvements will exceed Sacramento’s stated goal of 200 year flood protection.
- Auburn Dam would destroy 48 miles of the American River canyons that are enjoyed by
close to 1 million recreational visitors a year. - Auburn Dam would be built on earthquake faults. Water stored behind the dam could trigger a catastrophic quake flooding Sacramento.
- Auburn Dam current estimated construction costs would be $6 to $10 BILLION DOLLARS.
