ACTION ALERT: ASRA General Plan Was Voted on September 30
Update: The General Plan was voted unanimously to enact! This includes the Endurance Bridge at China Bar.
The California State Park and Recreation Commission is meeting on September 30 to consider approving the proposed new General Plan for the Auburn State Recreation Area (ASRA). The proposed plan sets out long-term goals and guidelines for the future management of ASRA. It will replace an outdated 30-year-old temporary plan that assumed Auburn Dam would be built and discouraged investment in trails, roads, restrooms, access improvements, interpretive information panels and other recreational features.
The new plan has been developed over the last six years with extensive public involvement. The final product is an excellent plan with strong resource protection measures along with enhanced recreational facility and public access strategies. PARC enthusiastically endorses its approval.
The September 30 meeting will be conducted virtually and will be live-streamed at https://cal-span.org/ beginning at 8:30 a.m. There will also be an opportunity to provide public comment at the meeting via Zoom (see details below).

Here are some points you may want to include in your support comments:
- The General Plan includes a comprehensive fire management plan that is consistent with CAL FIRE policies and requirements.
- The Plan makes clear that before any new recreational facilities are constructed, a project-level planning process will be required, including environmental, cultural and safety review and mitigation that will include fire risk reduction measures.
