The Confluence
Winter 2002
Digital American River Photo Gallery
For
over a year Kurt Bertilson of Sierra Digital Services has been
on a personal quest to create an on-line digital photo gallery
of American River images. Photographing primarily in the Confluence
area, his images convey the scenic beauty of the ever changing
interplay of light, shadow and color in the canyons. Many of his
photos also portray the rich diversity of recreational experiences
in the canyons and on the river.
Many thanks to Kurt for photographing last years Confluence festival
for PARC and presenting digital slide shows of the American River,
recently, at several community gatherings.
The American River photo gallery is located at:
http://www.sierradigitalservices.com
PARC's web site also has a link. Many images are available for
use in promoting the American River. Email Kurt at:

Folsom General Plan Input
Needed
The California Department of Parks and Recreation,
in partnership with the Bureau of Reclamation, recently began
the process of updating and revising the Folsom State Recreation
Area general plan. This two year update process will result in
the preparation of a plan that will serve as the primary management
document for the park and will guide future conservation and development
of public facilities. A similar process for the Auburn State Recreation
Area is scheduled to begin in the next year or so.
State Parks is seeking input on what should be included in the
updated Folsom plan. Because the boundaries of Folsom Lake SRA
extend upstream to the vicinity of Oregon Bar, we are encouraging
our members to urge State Parks to plan for recreational enhancements
in the Folsom-Auburn interface area, including the development
of multi-use trails connecting Folsom and Auburn SRAs.
Comments should be directed to: folsomlakeplanupdate@sfwrtdesign.com.
You can also check on the status of the general plan update process
by visiting State Parks' website at:
www.parks.ca.gov and clicking
on "General Plans" under "Related Links."
Canyon Keepers
The Canyon Keepers wrapped up their fourth year
with a BBQ celebration on the Mountain Quarries RR Bridge in October.
The November hike was scrubbed because of heavy rain but there
was an excellent turnout for the Codfish Trail hike on December
7. The next outing, open to the public, scheduled for January
11, will be led by Dr. Gordon Ainsleigh who will share some of
his "favorite secret spots on the North Fork American River."
The Canyon Keepers 2003 schedule of meetings and hikes is posted
on the Web at www.psyber.com/~asra/asrack.htm
