The Confluence Summer 2002

Annual River Clean-up Slated

Clean-up crew retrieves an abandoned, damaged canoe discovered in the American River during the last clean-up effort.
Join Protect American River Canyons and California State Parks and Recreation for our annual clean-up of the American River Canyons in the Auburn State Recreation Area on Saturday, September 21 from 8:00 am to 1:00pm. We will meet at the curved bridge in the Confluence Area near the Highway 49 crossing of the American River three miles south of Auburn.

This year's clean-up will focus on the proposed American River Confluence Parkway, especially the area beneath the Auburn-Foresthill bridge. This area is a chronic clean-up problem and safety hazard for people recreating on the river and trails below the bridge. PARC is working to have the fines increased for those caught throwing trash from the bridge. Volunteers are also encouraged to clean-up upper-Clementine, Ponderosa Way, Yankee Jims and Highway 49 from Auburn to the Confluence.

Check in at the PARC information booth to register and receive your free map of the Confluence area trails, trash bags and free beverage.

Please remember:
Wear sturdy shoes. Bring gloves, sunscreen, water and a lunch. Try out an
inflatable kayak at the post clean-up party at the Confluence.
