Codfish Falls Interpretive Trail Completed

Over a year of planning and work by Sierra College student Heather Mehl has recently culminated in the completion of the Codfish Creek Falls Discovery Trail Brochure and the installation of fourteen posts along the trail to coincide with the ecological descriptions and drawings contained in the brochure. The plants and animals included in the brochure were selected to provide a substantial introduction to the flora of the canyons. Several unique species of birds are included also. Heather believes that the increased knowledge of American River ecology that comes with the use of the brochure and trail will translate into increased appreciation and conservation of our American River resources.

To get to the trailhead:
Take I-80 east to Weimar Cross Roads. Exit the freeway. Make a right onto Canyon Way. In approximately 1/2 mile the road turns to the left becoming Ponderosa Way. Take Ponderosa all the way to the river. Park at the bridge and walk across the big sandy beach on river right to the trailhead .2 of a mile in.
Heather Mehl, far right, and Sierra College Science Club students take a break at post #13 during a recent Codfish trail work day.
