The
Confluence Spring 2003
"Alone
With Spring Conditions" a poem by Roger Groghan, PARC's Poet
Sliding along gliding along
a snow covered ridge
alive, high hormone high alive,
deep breathing:
bandana sweat climb,
swish swish -- at this moment
I haven't a wish.
Rucksack full
water, snack and anorak,
fire kit, compass and shades
stop moment prop moment
Billions of crystals
reflection -- refracting
I stop -- look at just one.
Sun out of blue
beams rainbows
in my eyes
T shirt weather,
snow drip afternoon
slush to mush,
tonight's freeze
tomorrow's crystals,
a rhythm of sun cups,
on the slopes.
The Silence ignores wind whispers,
over the mountain's mat of pines,
but not the 'aaah 'aah 'aaah
of a Nuthatch on another ridge.
