PICAYUNE VALLEY
Saturday, October 29: Day Hike

We will hike into Picayune Valley located in the Granite Chief Wilderness Area with Audubon naturalist Deren Ross. This Middle Fork headwaters glacieated valley is characterized by large old growth trees, unique wildlife habitat, waterfalls, ancient volcanic flows and brilliant colors in the Fall. In the valley we will be looking for the "raucous voiced" Clark's Nutcracker, the "breezy voiced" Townsend's Solitaire and the "stealth" Goshawk. We will also be searching for Aplonditia habitat: the elusive "mountain beaver". Picayune Valley is 60 miles from Auburn up the Foresthill Divide.
Meet at the Placer County Courthouse on Maple St. in Auburn. For more info. contact Deren at 530-885-9740.
