Canyon Keepers Celebrate Another Year of Service
The
Canyon Keepers completed their seventh year of service in behalf
of the Auburn State Recreation Area and the public over the Labor
Day weekend. Monthly hikes and meetings will continue as announced
on the website calendar. Members and friends are invited to join
the group for their annual Bash-on-the Bridge celebration, which
will be held Sunday, October 16 beginning at 4 pm on the Mountain
Quarries RR Bridge.
The Canyon Keepers have completed a total of twenty comprehensive
trail guides for ASRA which, along with the text and photos for
"A Self-guided Historic Bridges/Nature Trail" (with ten
numbered stations), will be included in a soon to be published book.

Auburn State Recreation Area
General Plan Update
At long last and after numerous delays, it appears the Bureau of
Reclamation and the California Department of Parks and Recreation
will soon begin the public process that will lead to adoption of
a new general plan for the management of the Auburn State Recreation
Area.
The planning process presents a real opportunity to influence the
future direction of park management. Public input will play an important
role in the plan's development. We encourage PARC members to participate
in the process and to submit constructive comments and suggestions
on how management of the ASRA canyonlands can and should be improved.
For more information on the general plan and PARC's position on
the key issues to be addressed, please visit PARC's website at www.parc-auburn.org
and read our proposal for the American
River Confluence Parkway.
