Volunteers Clean American River Canyon

The sign says, "Authorized Vehicles Only," which temporarily included a jet ski, (pictured right) that was recovered from underneath the Foresthill Bridge during ASRA & PARC's Fall Clean Up. The California Highway Patrol Helicopter brought the jet ski and three large net bags of trash to the "trash staging area" after being collected and loaded by volunteers.

Other volunteers combed the canyon sides, bringing back their trash to be sorted into recyclables. Many, many thanks to ASRA Ranger Bill Deitchman, retired PG&E employee Rex Maynard, the CHP helicopter crew and all our hardworking volunteers.

Phase 2 Of Pump Station Project Out To Bid

Revisions to the design of the in-river intake structure have now been completed and Phase 2 of the Placer County Water Agency's Pump Station Project has been put out to bid. The Bureau of Reclamation anticipates awarding a contract for Phase 2 work before the end of the year, with work to begin in January.

In the meantime, good progress continues to be made on Phase 1, with the rough river channel excavation now complete and construction of the pump station itself also nearing completion. The new pumps will be installed in the pump station sometime this fall.

The Bureau continues to project that the diversion tunnel will be closed and the North Fork of the American River returned to the reconstructed river channel in approximately April of 2007, with completion of the project's recreational access roads and boating take-outs to occur shortly thereafter.
