American River Confluence Festival 2003

Auburn's twelfth annual free American River Confluence Festival will be held on Sunday, June 8th from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm at the American River Overlook on Pacific Avenue, behind the Gold Country Fairgrounds. Festival sponsor Protect American River Canyons will create a unique shaded, river village. The 2003 Confluence Festival will focus on American River restoration set to begin this summer in conjunction with the installation of the Placer County Water Agency's permanent pumping station. Festival booths will feature information on the wilderness, cultural, recreational and economic benefits provided by a healthy American River watershed.

High Noon Featured Speaker:
Einar Maisch from PCWA will present a progress update on the American River pump station, river restoration and closure of the dam diversion tunnel.

River Art Activities will focus on watershed education themes including wild canyon animal mask painting, fish printing and watershed mural painting.

The Confluence Festival will feature the work of painter Susan Cooley-Gilliom who designed the "Let Our River Flow" Confluence Parkway poster. White Wings will release doves in Susan's memory.

Mystic Design artists, Laurel & LeeAnn, who for the past six years have designed the Confluence Festival poster and t-shirt, will be available to sign this year's poster.

American River theme ceramic art work created by local area students will also be featured at the festival.
